Walking Over Earth
This project involved the use of After Effects to create a 2D animation that would be synchronised to a music video and feature a walk cycle. After choosing a song that I deemed to have an interesting sound and beat, being Imagine Dragons “Enemy” I planned out the scene and developed a 3D camera within After effects which could be piloted and allowed for me to not have to draw the frames individually saving time and resourced for the rest of the project. I also developed a 2D character rig which could be piloted and looped for multiple animations, furthering the reduction in future workload and asset creation. I then developed the walk cycle using various reference video before creating 2d assets of the exploding earth and air lock. This process was tedious and after its created taught me the value of 2D animation, as well as how to achieve similar effects and the ways in which companies often take short cuts to meet deadlines and production targets. After this learning I did end up with a finished music video synchronised to the beat of the music which I found to be a good result given my perceived weakness in 2D animation.
